Over 1.7 Million Tourists Feel the “Charm of Dragon Boat Festival”

In the middle of summer, the aroma of zongzi and mugwort filled the air. During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the city launched nearly 200 special events in succession, providing a rich supply of cultural and tourism products, colorful folk activities, and a hot market for rural and suburban tourism. The inbound tourism market has also achieved initial results. Data showed that during the holiday, the city’s monitored tourist attractions received a total of 1.7069 million tourists, an increase of 26.42% year on year.

The “new Chinese-style” tour has become the new normal for holiday tourism. The Huaguo Mountain Scenic Area launched the performance of Journey to the West drama series “Searching for Zongzi in the Westward Journey”, with many familiar characters in Journey to the West presenting festival sachets to tourists. The Yuwan Scenic Area recreated ancient scenes of the imperial examination with activities such as “Top Scholars Greeting Guests” and “River Light Prayer”, attracting many families with children and students to pray for success in examinations and leaping over the dragon’s gate. The Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area by the Sea launched activities such as “intangible cultural heritage lacquer fan” and “tea soap” making. The Kongwangshan Scenic Area held activities such as “scoring high on the exam and entering desired schools with ease”, with a series of traditional activities such as shooting five poisons and reciting the Analects of Confucius, showcasing the enduring cultural heritage.

Public cultural and historical venues at all levels launched a series of activities centered on Dragon Boat Festival elements to inherit humanistic power. The city library held a paper-cutting class titled “Qu Yuan and Dragon Boat Festival”, with solemn and resolute images of Qu Yuan emerging from red paper after outlining and cutting. The city art gallery, folk museum, and cultural center held Dragon Boat Festival sachet-making activities, allowing participants to feel the joy of traditional handicrafts by sewing and threading. The city museum held a special exhibition of ancient stone carving art, with 72 stone rubbings and inions leading visitors into a long history.

The combination of “music + tourism” also sparked a wave of enthusiasm during this holiday. The annual Lianyungang Summer Concert ignited the enthusiasm of 30,000 audience members at the Sports Center; the “Water Rhythm National Trend Night Show” in Yanhe Alley continued to dominate the list of popular holiday performances in Lianyungang city, attracting over 900,000 tourists; the large-scale tourism performance and national instrumental music drama “Music and Journey to the West” was staged, allowing audiences to deeply feel the charm of the fairy Huaguo Mountain and the unique beauty of folk music; concerts such as the Xinghai Lake Dragon Boat Festival-themed concert, the camping concert at Liuzhizhou Mountain Sports Park, and the roadshow by million-follower video bloggers in the old Xinpu style distric promoted the integration of art into citizens’ lives.

The demand for tourism and leisure in nearby and rural areas has been deeply tapped and released. The third season of the Hailing Lake Dragon Boat Race featured a spectacular scene of 20 dragon boat teams rowing against the waves, setting an example for the integrated development of “sports + tourism”; the first Water Carnival was held on Crescent Island, with water entertainment such as fun family dragon boat rides and sailing experiences further expanding the playing space; the parent-child cruise tour in Lian Island attracted parents; and outdoor camping activities were launched in Jiagu Mountain, Yuntai Mountain by the Sea, and Qingsongling Forest Park, where tourists could enjoy fishing by the river, listening to the chorus of birds and insects, and experiencing a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
