Good news came from the 8th Silk Road International Exposition and China East-West Cooperation and Investment & Trade Fair, which opened on September 20th: Lianyungang Port Group Co., Ltd., Kazakhstan Express Rail Company, and Aktau Trade Sea Port State-Owned Joint-Stock Company jointly signed a series of documents, including the Cooperation Agreement on the Implementation of the Aktau Port Container Hub Project and the Establishment Agreement of the Aktau International Container Partnership, marking the official entry into the implementation phase of the Aktau Port Container Hub Project and a new level of cooperation between China and Kazakhstan in the layout of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
The construction of the Aktau Port Container Hub Project is a significant move by Lianyungang Port to actively participate in the “Belt and Road” Initiative and deepen cooperation with Kazakhstan. Last October, Lianyungang Port and Kazakhstan’s national railway company signed a strategic cooperation agreement at the “High-Level Forum on Connectivity” of the Third “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation, aiming to jointly develop the “Asia-Pacific Countries – China – Kazakhstan” route and build the Aktau Port Container Hub in Kazakhstan. In July this year, at the 7th China-Kazakhstan Entrepreneurs Committee held in Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital, Lianyungang Port and Kazakhstan’s national railway company signed a joint venture agreement, announcing the establishment of a joint venture to accelerate the construction of the Aktau Port Container Hub Project.
The signing in Xi’an is a further advancement of the Aktau Port Container Hub Project. Aktau Port is the primary transit hub for the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, and the Aktau Port Container Hub Project, located behind the Aktau Port terminal, is a crucial node connecting Baku Port and enhancing the capacity and efficiency of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. Upon completion, the project will integrate with the Sino-Kazakhstan (Lianyungang) Logistics Cooperation Base and the “Khorgos—East Gate” Dry Port to form a “three-node hub integration” operation on the New Eurasian Land-Sea Transport Corridor, helping Lianyungang Port accelerate the construction of a comprehensive logistics network connecting Asia and Europe to the west, and amplify the advantages of domestic and overseas linkage and bi-directional opening up between the east and the west.
It is reported that at this Silk Road Expo, Lianyungang Port also jointly issued the initiative for High-Quality Construction of a Modern International Logistics System for High-Level Opening-Up to the West with Xi’an Chanba International Port, Khorgos Port, COSCO Shipping, Shandong Port, Bulgaria’s Burgas Port, Euro-Asia Logistics, Hongying International, and Trans-Eurasian German companies.
